Role Summary:The Digital Workplace Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for working closely with the DW Solutions team to drive development of enabling tools that allow employees to self-serve across their technologies, including the provisioning and management of their core technology platforms. He/She will be working on various platforms and ecosystems to improve the overall experience and deliver additional capability across existing tools to our end user community.
Essential Responsibilities: The Digital Workplace Software Engineer will be part of a broader software engineering community, and the projects you will be working on will be globally impactful, touching every employee across GE. In this role you will:
  • Act as a member of the broader Digital Workplace Technology team, representing the face of high quality design and development practices
  • Develop high performing, enterprise scale, innovative end-to-end web applications
  • Collaborate with system engineers and Back End developers to design, build, and implement core platforms and solutions
  • Apply principles of key methodologies such as Lean/Agile/XP, software and product security, scalability, documentation practices, code refactoring, and testing techniques/automation
  • Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the core tech stack selected for the desired products
  • Build new key features for the product portfolio, leveraging existing standard frameworks for the ecosystem
  • Understand performance parameters and frequently assess application stability throughout its lifecycle
    Qualifications/Requirements: Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or in STEM Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in Front End software engineering
  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U. S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Miami, FL
    Desired Characteristics: Technical Expertise:
  • Proven understanding of core computer science fundamentals (such as data structures, memory management, object-oriented programming, algorithms & Big-O notation)
  • Proven experience and solid understanding of JavaScript, including but not limited to ES6 features, DOM manipulation/optimization, event loops etc.
  • Deep understanding of ReactJS including its benefits and pitfalls
  • Deep understanding of UI component design, composability, and maintainability
  • Experience working with Angular 1. 6+
  • Experience working with and integrating RESTful APIs into web applications
  • Understand of web/mobile application deployment to Cloud infrastructure, understanding how to optimize deployment (bundling, minifying etc.)
  • Experience creating UI elements from ground-up
  • Solid understanding of CSS (experience with CSS preprocessors is a plus [Ex: SCSS, LESS, Stylus])
  • Working knowledge of AJAX
  • Working knowledge of NodeJS frameworks (ExpressJS, Electron)
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Familiarity with unit or integration testing Business Acumen:
  • Have a solid understanding of the underlying infrastructure needed to run a large distributed web application
  • Has the ability to break down problems and estimate time for development tasks
  • Has the ability to make basic technology choices based on experience
  • Demonstrates awareness about competitors and industry Leadership:
